WE knew the girl loved to run... she was the second fastest time in the entire BG elementary as a 3rd grader... but I guess we had no idea how good she was.
We've not ever really done track!
After only a couple of weeks "training" coach Art set KG and SJ (we were surprised he wanted to even do this!!) to run in the district track meet.
SJ ran the 100 and the 200... which all the beginning competitors did.... EXCEPT KG!
He put her into the 800 and the 1500!
PopT rubs shoulders to loosen our boy and get him ready for his 2 events.
Coach Art tells KG some of the points of strategy in timing and getting around the track.
She not only qualified for the regional, she took GOLD in both her events beating her best times by 40 sec in the 1500~.... she was competing with middle schoolers and even the older girls in these distance runs. This qualified her to run in the regional meet at ACU.
At the Regional meet KG qualified to go on to Nationals, but wisely (this Tahtee thinks:) her mommy opted out of traveling to VA for this meet, and decided the girl and her brothers (yes both are running now, getting up at 6AM in the morning in the SUMMER!!!) needed another year of training before jumping in any further!
I do believe the LORD may have some plans in order for this sport for this girl.... and maybe even her brothers and possibly her cousins... we'll see!
It was fun to see them run! effortless.... and easy!
